Atomium Accessibility

Information for visitors with disabilities and reduced mobility.

The Atomium is a heritage building from 1958, and its unique architecture presents some accessibility challenges. While not all areas are accessible, efforts have been made to accommodate visitors with disabilities where possible. Please see our free & reduced tickets page for information on pricing for visitors with disabilities.

Access for Visitors with Reduced Mobility

Wheelchair Access

Due to the architectural design, which includes many stairs and escalators, only certain parts of the Atomium are accessible to wheelchair users. The panoramic sphere at the top is fully accessible via the main lift. However, the other exhibition spheres are not accessible by wheelchair.

For this reason, admission to the Atomium is free for visitors who use a wheelchair or require crutches.

Other Disabilities

Visitors with other disabilities who do not use a wheelchair can purchase a reduced-price ticket. Please be aware that the visit involves navigating long escalators and numerous stairs. Some of the light and sound installations may be disorienting for visitors with sensory sensitivities.

Adapted Facilities

Adapted toilets are available for visitors with disabilities in the reception pavilion at the base of the Atomium.

Accessibility FAQ

Your questions answered

Can I visit all the spheres in a wheelchair?
No, unfortunately only the top panoramic sphere is accessible by wheelchair via the lift. The connecting tubes contain stairs and escalators.
Is there a discount for companions or carers?
The official Atomium ticketing policy does not specify a discount for companions. The visitor with reduced mobility (in a wheelchair) enters for free, while a visitor with another disability pays a reduced rate.
Are assistance dogs allowed?
For specific policies regarding assistance animals, it is best to contact the Atomium directly through their official website before your visit.
